Root Canal is the treatment of choice when the tooth has experienced death or necrosis . It is an option so as not to extract a tooth or allowing the patient to be edentulous. In our profession, we pledge to save the tooth and we will do everything to salvage it.
Once the decay reached its pulpal floor, we have the option to do Pulpotec Treatment (it is cutting of the infected pulp area and placement of medication for the tooth to survive). BUT if the crown of the tooth is badly worn out and the enamel left is more than half, we will consider doing root canal treatment.
It’s a procedure that will require 2 or more session especially when there’s periapical abscess. The canal is being enlarge and clean as part of disinfecting the bacteria from the roots. Placing intracanal medicaments and its complete sealing plays a major role in its success.
Single visit can also be done as long as the tooth shows no sign of infection.
